A Framework for Specifying and Visualizing Architectural Designs
نویسنده
چکیده
Architectural designs specify the components of a software system, their interfaces, and their interrelationships. Module Interconnection Languages (MILs) are useful for specifying architectural designs, but lack an intuitive visual representation similar to the visual design notations found in CASE tools. This paper presents a framework for formally de ning the syntax and semantics of languages for specifying and visualizing architectural designs. Also described are an instance and prototype implementation of this framework consisting of two languages: one for specifying designs and one for visualizing them.

Extending Programming Environments to Support Architectural Design
As software systems grow in size and complexity, the demand for languages and tools to capture higher-order abstractions than those supported by programming languages increases. One of these abstractions is the architectural design, which speci es a system's components, their interfaces, and their interrelationships using textual or visual notations. Although there have been signi cant advances...

متن کاملHighly Analysable, Reusable, and Realisable Architectural Designs with XCD
Connector-Centric Design (XcD) is a new approach to specifying software architectures. XcD views complex connectors as highly significant in architectural designs, as it is the complex connectors that non-functional quality properties in systems can emanate from. So, XcD promotes in designs a clean separation of connectors (interaction behaviours) from components (functional behaviours). Design...
متن کاملRealizable, Connector-Driven Software Architectures for Practising Engineers
Despite being a widely-used language for specifying software systems, UML remains less than ideal for software architectures. Architecture description languages (ADLs) were developed to provide more comprehensive support. However, so far the application of ADLs in practice has been impeded by at least one of the following problems: (i) advanced formal notations requiring a steep learning curve,...
متن کاملPosition Paper: Challenges in Visualizing and Reconstructing Architectural Views
A common approach to cope with software architecture comprehension is to provide higher levels of abstraction of lower level system information. Architectural recovery tools provide such high-level views by extracting and abstracting a subset of the software entities. In this research we are focusing on challenges in visualizing and reconstructing architectural views. In particular we are looki...
